Biography of Monique Laville

Monique Laville (née Saccomanni) is a self-taught professional painter, born in Marseille on February 2, 1950.
From a very young age, she received support from her father, who financed her classical dance and piano lessons. Although she did not pursue formal artistic training, she began sketching in black pencil, charcoal, and pastel. Later, she was inspired by photographs and the great masters of Impressionism, ultimately opting for oil painting on canvas.
Style and Technique
She employs a unique technique: all her oil paintings are done with a single, small knife, which gives them a very personal painterly touch.
Her paintings, predominantly Impressionist, revisit real landscapes in their own unique way. Furthermore, many of her works include a small figure dressed in blue, inspired by her father, a mechanic by trade, as a tribute.
